Wed 16th July – Day 67: Airlie to Townsville

Rain, rain go away. Come again another day! Well the humid little showers of the past few days paled in comparison to last night and today’s deluges. Packing up the camper in the rain is never fun, but it was scarey how much we had forgotten in our 2 weeks off. It took us close to 2 hours to pack up, as we did everything arse about face!
Crossing the Burdekin River, just outside of Ayr I was amazed to see it almost empty, lots of sand everywhere and large pools of isolated water – so much for a break in the drought.
Townsville is a massive city and it took us forever to find a caravan park that wasn’t full (NSW & VIC still on school holidays). Finally found a Big 4 on the north of the city and set up in the drizzling rain. Hot showers and BBQ chicken later we settled down and did tantrix puzzles around the table until bed-time.
