A muggy humid night, the drone of a lone mosquito kept disturbing my sleep but I awoke with only a couple of bites. Breakfast over we decided to make the most of the relatively cooler air and take a walk to the East Alligator River. The kids on bikes we strolled through the stone country for a few km’s exploring a few more painted rocky outcrops. The River forms the boundary between Kakadu and Arnhem Land. Here the water is muddy and murky as the clear fresh water that runs off the Southern hills merges with the tidal salt of the Arafura Sea. At Cahills Crossing we stood on the viewing platform and watched the Crocodiles lazily patrol the water.
Pack-up done, the humidity & temperature climbing we escaped to the air-conditioning of the car and took off towards Darwin and our next adventure.
Window on the Wetlands – perched on Beatrice Hill, overlooking the Adelaide River floodplains. The kids got to handle a baby long necked turtle and Pete vowed we are putting in a pond and waterfall for frogs, turtles and fish on our return home – should be interesting….
