May 9th 2008 - Day 1: The Adventure Begins

We are on the road……yeah!

Spent the past 2 days juggling goodbyes with hoards of well wishers, sticky beakers and anyone else who just happed to drop buy to see how we were getting on and hence the finely tuned packing timetable got thrown out the window….Note to Susan W, we are still talking to each other….just!

We finally closed the door on the house in readiness for her new occupants on Sunday, then off to say goodbye to Grandma Nola and Grandpa Geoff who is recovering slowly but steadily in Dalcross Hospital

It’s now 5pm Friday night - the F3 is a carpark but we don’t care, we are officially on holidays!!

The house is packed, the animals billeted, the mail diverted, the new teacher met (with 4 weeks of work to start with!), the camper is packed (well sort off – really everything is just chucked in there!), the car is chocka-block and the kids are sitting surrounded by ‘stuff’ but who cares we are on our way.

The last few weeks have been ones of absolute pandemonium, the April camping show seems to have occurred years ago. Did we really buy all that stuff – generators, shower tents, toilet seats, camping stoves, tables, chairs, ground sheets etc etc. The new car with bull bar, tow bar, pod on top, rear slide out Waeco Fridge, storage drawers, and towing our second hand Jayco Outback Swan Camper Trailer is driving like a dream.

‘Griswalds’ eat your hearts out!

First stop tonight ‘Wangi Lakeside Caravan Park' on the shores of Lake Maquarie. It’s now dark and so our first night will entail setting everything up in the pitch black – now that could be interesting – we’ll let you know…

‘Wangi Point Lakeside Caravan Park’ (Power $25/night)

Thought you would have navigated to "Grot Hill" for the first night and then maybe "Planet Clare".
