Sat 6th September – Day 119: Kooljaman

The next morning Pete who had made friends with the neighbours Jerry, Wendy & 2 girls (also towing Jayco camper) went fishing with Jerry in his new aluminium dinghy. Being Jerry’s birthday, Wendy & the kids decided to use the camp oven and a roaring fire to make him a birthday cake. After donating candles, sparklers and balloons to the cause, the kids and I decided that at 38°C we would head for the water. Taking the boogie boards the kids tried unsuccessfully to slide down the nearby sand-dunes.
After lunch Pete returned triumphantly bearing fish for dinner – ‘tusk’ fish with blue bones is the local delicacy apparently.
An afternoon spent in the water, making shell necklaces or reading a book in the hammock saw another day in paradise close. The fish was very tasty and with the neighbours playing some very good music (for once) we enjoyed our beachside shack.
Beach Shelter ($76/night)
