Rain overnight, our first in ages and although it was only a few drops I was wide-awake trying to work out what the sound was. I contemplated getting up to put the awnings over the bed-ends and when I finally made the decision to get out of bed it had all but stopped.
No sign of the few splashes of water this morning as the temperature is already in the late 20’s. The kids enjoyed pancakes for breakfast and then a bit of school-work until the temperature forced us to the beach.
The water up here is crystal clear and beautiful to swim in. With their 8m tides the beaches are either great swimming/snorkelling reserves or huge exposed layers of shells, and rock pools for exploring. The sand is white as and reminds us of our time on Whitehaven beach. The sea breeze helps keep the temperature a bit more comfortable and we spent a good couple of hours making sand castles, swimming and just relaxing.
After lunch we explored the accom options around the camp from very nice self contained cabins right down to beach shelters right on the beach consisting of a timber frame with palm-frond walls and roof – very rustic.
We all veged out in the heat of the day, me reading another book (I have read and read on this trip – it has been excellent), Pete rigging yet more fishing gear, while the kids amused themselves in the shade putting up the tent.
Later that afternoon a stroll at low tide along another beach saw us find hundreds of small Cowrie, Volute, Triton and other shells, that we collected in our plastic buckets.
At sunset we pulled our chairs up to the ridge and with beers and nibbles, while the kids flew their kites on the beach below and we watched the golden globe descend below the horizon.
That night it was time for some kid bonding so I slept in the tent with Chloe and Pete had wriggly Toby in the camper. Must say those thermarests are Ok, but my camper bed is far better….
