On road by 9:30 despite having to wash more bedding (Oops accident). Straight, flat, bitumen road for just over 400km today – oh joy! We are still such a long way from home, with still so much to see that a few long km days will be the order. Well at least I can catch up on the blog.
The last 10km was on a wide red dirt road, finally we came over a crest and the brilliant blue waters of the Indian ocean stretched out before us with the caravan park just behind the sand dunes, shaded by palm trees. This place was one of the cleanest parks we have stayed in, the facilities were all well maintained and the staff friendly and helpful. I can see why so many Perth residents come up here and stay the summer. We raced through set-up and high-tailed it down to Eighty Mile Beach, which as the name suggests is incredibly long. Famous for its fishing and shell collecting, not to mention the magnificent sunsets we managed to do all 3 in the afternoon. No luck with the fishing but it was nice standing in the cool water just relaxing. We collected 100’s of shells and the sunset was awesome.
After dinner we went back to the beach in the hope of seeing some flat-backed turtles which nest on the beach between Oct – April, none seen but more shells were collected.
