Pete up early to use up the last of the pilchards, Toby following close behind. Chloe & I had a leisurely breakfast and joined them on the beach for some more shell collecting. Pete caught a good sized blue backed salmon which takes care of dinner tonight. On the way to clean the fish Pete and the kids ran into the eccentric owner of the dug out that we visited in White Cliffs. Seems ‘Jock’ had a falling out in White Cliffs and he was doing a bit of a trip before returning to the mines later in the year. Only goes to prove it can be a very small world; meeting up again with a man who’ s house door is the only thing exposed to the elements.
Back at camp the kids and I explored the long timers who had collected 1000’s of shells (some extremely large) and made wind chimes.
Straight, flat bitumen today for hours and hours and hours...
Quick stop in Port Hedland to see if BHP Billiton was doing tours of its iron ore facilities, but no luck until next week. So after stopping at a nearby park to see the big ships in port, pausing on Redbank bridge to look at the longest railway carriages in the world and photograph the Dampier Salt Stockpile we continued south to Karratha where we found the most expensive Caravan park in Australia (or so it seems).
However the car needs a service and the kids need a break (they have been very patient while Pete & I fished at 80 mile, but they are dying for a swim, not recommended to swim there as water murky and lots of fish about), so we will spend 2 nights here with a rest day tomorrow.
